Aboriginal Art

Year 7 students have been learning about Aboriginal Art. Aboriginal people had their own laws,
and languages, and through storytelling, rock art and paintings, they passed on their history to each new generation.

Patterns and symbols were created using only the colours seen in nature, (for instance soil, was seen in tints of reds, yellows and browns ochres. White, clay and charcoal colours were also used from natural materials. The backgrounds of these art works were never blank. There is always a continuous use of dotting, patterns, lines or hatching to create a sense of movement within the work. These works of art could be labelled as Abstract.

Their Task was to:
To draw an X-Ray animal onto a poly block, then roll out the ink onto the table.
Roll the ink evenly onto the tiles,  press down onto the paper to make a successful poly block print.

Today they designed and created their own prints using polystyrene tiles. The students were very enthusiastic about this session and did not want to stop! We had 30 students all printing at the same time and they were all very excited and pleased with the work they produced.

Year 10 Mouldy Art

Year 10 have been working on the theme of decay for a few weeks in their Art lessons. Miss Short's group have been busy making their own mould.
They first looked at lots of images of mould then were challenged with creating a piece of work that had texture and layers using items found in the art room and other things like flour, salt, coffee, coconut and polystyrene. The students began creating their mouldy masterpieces and the end results are very colourful and realistic looking.

Mix Club

‘Last week saw the launch of the new ‘mix club’ in the music department, where pupils are given the opportunity to learn how to use industry standard recording and electronic software, creating their own electronic music from this. It had a great turn out of pupils in its first week so there are only a few places left for those who want to join!’

Our year 8 students have been busy designing their own Gaudi inspired doors using cardboard and Modrock. A lot of mess has been made in our art rooms but all in the spirit of creating a fun fabulous piece of 3D work.

They began their designs by cutting and ripping, sticking cardboard into the door shapes on a sheet of cardboard. Then the students started to add the modrock on top to build up lots of layers creating lots of texture to make their work 3dimensional.

The next step will be to paint their 3D doors and make them explode with colour!

Creating our own songs for special occasions

Today in music we have been working on creating our own songs for a special occasion. The year 8’s have had the choice of making music for Christmas, Halloween, Funerals, Weddings and Diwali.

Our year 8 boys Arun, Tyler, Dylan and Keaton have demonstrated their knowledge of Dhol drumming to the class, which we have compared against the music of Diwali. They are now using these instruments to create their own Diwali song.

Art Mock Exam

Our Year 11 students have been sitting their 3 hour mock art exam this week. They have spent the last term preparing for this, learning new skills using new media types and taking lots of photographs and developing their skills to create a minimum A2 piece of artwork in their exam.

Our GCSE Art Course provides our students with a wide range of creative, exciting and stimulating opportunities to explore their interests in ways that are both personally relevant and developmental in nature.
